Gouache on paper
24”x36”
Initially Commissioned by SAC Saudi for its 21,39 Jeddah Arts (2020) Jeddah Arts exhibition by the title “أيتها الأرض I love You, Urgently” curated by Maya ELkhalil
Riffing on consumerism, the growth of packaged goods, and the excessive use of single-use plastics, these satirical advertisements draw attention to the excesses of our own society. Though absurd, the subject matter runs uncomfortably close to present realities. The posters feel less like emissaries from an imagined dystopia than an extrapolation of our own culture.
Tying together the advertising trends that gloss over the damaging realities of these goods, (Non-)Perishable demonstrates the careless and shortsighted attitudes that have fatal implications on the lives of many generations to come. Individually, each ad ties a specific product to the species directly affected by its production. Piece after piece, the series accumulates to map out a dystopian future that has already begun to materialize in both tangible and preventable ways.
(Non-)Perishable invites the viewer to reflect on lifestyles, buying habits, and actualizing alternate futures.

(NON-)PERISHABLE ARABIZED VOL I, 2021
Because I believe that quality art should be accessible, I collaborated with variety of creative professionals to prepare these artworks, producing them using the highest quality archival pigments on the highest quality fine art papers out there (Archival Pigment Print on 290gsm Hahnemühle Bamboo Natural Fine Art Paper). As part of continuing the story and broadening the audience - there was also a great deal of care and effort in redesigning and hand drawing the texts in Arabic; bringing these limited edition sustainable art prints to a wider collector circle. Art can drive meaningful change by doing more than just reflecting concepts that spread awareness and generate dialog. Staying true to this idea, 15% of the sale of each artwork or print will be donated to charities and non-profit organizations that help rehabilitate, conserve, and restore the environment and help reverse the damage that we, as a species, have inflicted on this incredible planet we call home.
