Variable dimensions
| an exploration of the self as both subject and object. presenting a striking, hairless white form that emerges from the wall, reminiscent of a death mask. Devoid of the individual traits that typically define a person. This form serves as a canvas, a literal tabula rasa, or blank slate, challenging viewers to confront the raw potentiality of the self.
The work features a dynamic interplay of 40 miniature paintings, projected cyclically onto this sculptural form through a slide projector. These images range from the abstract and gestural to the acutely representational, creating a visual dialogue that oscillates between reality and illusion. This shifting landscape of imagery invites viewers to contemplate the fluidity of perception and the boundaries between the real and the mythical.“Tabula Rasa” raises questions about the nature of selfhood. It prompts us
to consider what is intrinsic to our identity and what might be an external imposition, a phantom of societal or cultural expectation. The artwork acts as a metaphor for the human psyche, where layers of self are continuously projected and altered by internal and external influences.
This piece is not just a visual experience but a philosophical inquiry. It asks us to ponder the essence of reality and myth in the formation of our identities. Are we merely a collection of projected images and societal constructs, or is there an inherent self beneath these layers? “Tabula Rasa” invites viewers into a contemplative space where the boundaries of the self are both challenged and celebrated, urging a reexamination of what constitutes our sense of self in a complex and ever-changing world.
