Mixed Media Sculpture | stoneware clay, glass, LED

17”x28”x17”

This artwork brings to life an idealized imaginary with overtones of an indulgent gaze. The volumonous fleshy figure reclining as an Odalisque would, and holding onto a form resembling a pistol as if to surrender to the viewer’s gaze. Muscular and volumonous, the figure swells up to accentuate a physicality that embodies both masculine and feminine attributes. The surreal idealized form is individuated into 4 separate parts that come together to make whole a grotesque yet tantalizing body in indulgent detail. The head is replaced with a fuzzy glowing orb that periodically switches on and off begging to bask in its own luminous light. This other wordly creature illicits a reflection on idealized forms and the kinds of gazes that we internalize or project outwardly in relation to our bodies.
